Basketball in Balance

In these two 3D animations, I explore the tension between movement and stillness, between breath and form. Air – invisible yet tangible – becomes a sculptural element that continuously seeks equilibrium. Both the balancing and the waiting basketballs embody a moment that never reaches completion: a form that breathes, yet never comes to rest.

Transformations

Start 2017 - Waiting Shots

A basketball is mounted on an aluminum profile and connected to a pneumatic system. As the ball slowly inflates and deflates, it continually searches for a fragile balance. The form seems to hover between stability and transformation – solidly present, yet never fully fixed.

2017 - Balancing Basketball

In this sculpture, basketballs hang in front of their hoops, suspended mid-throw. Connected to a pneumatic system, they inflate and deflate at a slow, uneven rhythm. Through this breathing motion, the balls appear trapped in a moment that never moves forward – always on their way to the hoop, but never passing through it.
